Wow what a scorcher this weekend turned out to be, temperatures up in the high twenties and sun cream a must.Round 5 was at the superb Cotswold track, looking it’s best thanks to the club guys – Fred, Neal, Richard and Peter. There were quite a few of us they for the Saturday practice, with myself and Steve rolling up about 11.30. It was interesting to note that about 12.30 ish the heat got so much that most agreed the grip went off a bit then, as it was just too hot for the tyres. Most people using the Roadies, both originals and new pro versions. With the weather being so good most people were on the track till pretty late, I know we didn’t leave until about 7pm for the B&B, and then on to the local fish and chip owned by some famous bike racers.
Racing format was as usual, three 12 minute qualifiers taking your best 3 consecutive laps and two 8 minute finals. Seems to be working well, this system will sort most people – but not all, as it’s our first season doing this, we may need to tweak if everybody wants at the AGM.
Simon was setting the pace in Superbike closely followed by Peter and then Gary. The times were very close, again down to hundredths in some places. Stock qualifying pole went to Neal with Scott just behind. The nitro was taken by Fred, then John, Richard and Ken – times again very close. The sidecar went to Martin with his scratcher followed up by Ken.
The finals again were very close affairs, the ones that I saw particularly stock and nitro saw some very close racing, results could have gone either way in some instances. In my superbike final I have a good battle with Steve and his RG bike – I did let him through in the end as he might not have spoken all the way home, only joking!!
I’ve added a few pictures below, there are some really good action shots – links on Moto-5, that John and Gary have taken, worth checking out. The results can be found here see you all at Mendip.
